AI abundance and the concentration of power
The central thesis of the sovereign singularity is that AI abundance and power concentration are the same event. Intelligence is getting radically cheaper, and the institutions that own frontier compute, capital, platforms, and data are getting radically stronger at the same time.
For most of the industrial era, new technology arrived on a familiar curve: expensive at the top, cheap at the bottom, eventually a commodity. Electricity, computing, and bandwidth all followed this pattern. What is different about AI is that the same wave that pushes marginal intelligence toward zero also pushes the marginal cost of building the frontier toward the moon.
Training runs at the frontier now consume the output of dedicated power plants, the yield of entire fabs, and the capital of the largest balance sheets in the world. That reality does not disappear because you can run a capable model on a laptop. It means the top of the stack is being built by fewer players than any previous general-purpose technology.
Abundance is not the same as agency
Cheap inference makes intelligence available. It does not automatically make people sovereign. A user who rents cognition from a platform they cannot inspect, cannot switch away from, and cannot audit is not free. They are a better-served customer.
The defining task of the singularity is therefore not merely to create more intelligence, but to distribute the agency, ownership, and exit rights that let ordinary people use that intelligence without becoming dependent on a wealthy and connected few.
Why this framing matters
Most AI commentary picks a side: doom or utopia, open or closed, decel or accel. The sovereign singularity thesis refuses that binary. It accepts that frontier training will be centralized and insists that the fruits of that training must be portable, contestable, and ownable at the edge.
That is the standard by which every model release, every regulation, every platform, and every protocol should be judged: does it hand more agency to individuals and small teams, or does it move agency further into a small number of hands?
